It is important to first identify what you value in order to figure out what kind of work you want. Sometimes people try to escape their values and it can take several attempts before they find what they truly want. For example, you may have great technical skills, but you may be unsure whether they are aligned with what you really want to do.
Exploring your interests
It's possible to discover your true passions if it isn't clear what you want to do. List the things you love and make connections between them. Next, try to combine two of your interests.
Your interests reflect in your hobbies and affinities. They help you stay focused on the ideas and activities that are most important to you. You can also choose the career path you want based on your abilities and skills. Your transferable skills are the competencies that you can use in different contexts.
Identifying your strengths
First, identify your strengths. There are many methods to accomplish this. The easiest way to start is to identify your strengths. While you may believe you're not good at something certain things are not true. Compare yourself to the population to find out how unique and valuable your skills are.

If you are a good organizer, you might think about activities where you can apply your organizational skills. These activities could include writing, motivational speech, or activism. If you stick to your core values you will be able find a way that you can use your strengths to fulfil your passions. Use a self-assessment instrument like the Wheel of Strengths, to determine where your strengths lie.
Identify your values
Identifying your values is one of the best ways you can determine your career goals. To test your values, you can either use an online tool like the VIA Signature Strengths Surveynaire or a free one such as Gallup's StrengthsFinder2.0. These values should be compared to your core values.
Next, take some time to reflect on your values. Think about what made you happy or painful in the past, and how these experiences have shaped your core values. Now think about how each one of these values could be used to help you find the right career.
Keep your options open
You can make sure that you are open to all possibilities in order for you to find the right career. You run the risk of choosing the wrong job if you limit your career options too soon. This can be frustrating, time-consuming, and may lead to you being frustrated and even disengaged from your career.
For all ages, it is a good strategy to keep your options open in deciding what career you want. This allows you to explore many career options and discover what you love most. This is especially useful if your goal is to change careers or get into the workforce. You can always change to a better job, even if you end up with a miserable job.
