How Many People Change Jobs?

It's not hard to see how a person's work history can change over the course of their lives. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average number of people who changed jobs between the ages of 18-24 and 35 was 5.7. The figure drops to two to four between the ages of 25 to 34. This number drops to 2.9 changes between the ages of 35 and 44, and 1.9 changes between 45 and 52. This trend may not translate into career shifts, as changes may not always be the exact same.

Half of these young professionals would also consider relocating to a new location for their new role. Twenty percent of Gen Z workers agreed that more variety in their job would be appealing.

While some people remain loyal to their job for the rest of their lives, others change jobs frequently until they find the right job. Many reasons people change careers. This shift is due in part to the generation they are from and their stage in life. This will lead them to seek more flexibility in job search, higher pay, and better benefits. Because of this, they won't change their career as often as their Gen X counterparts.

Gen Xers are more likely to set clear goals and expectations when working. This helps them to stay motivated. They may also provide guidance to members of the team as required.
